Dr. Carl Bazan
The recipient of an MD from the Autonomous University of Guadalajara, experienced clinical researcher Dr. Carl Bazan began his career overseeing clinical trials of medical devices for physicians in Mexico. In this capacity, he relied on his Spanish-language skills to translate and rewrite documents and protocols. In addition, Dr. Carl Bazan drew on his bilinguality to lead the consent process.
Later, as a senior clinical research associate at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, Dr. Carl Bazan translated and interpreted clinical research documents, conducted protocol training in both Spanish and English, and adjusted the mechanics of trials based on cultural competency concerns. On one trial sponsored by the institution, he also served as the country manager for Spain.
Dr. Carl Bazan completed formal training in cultural competency and in medical translation/interpretation in 2016, and he continues to make use of his language skills as a clinical research associate at Precision for Medicine. Dr. Bazan’s responsibilities with the Bethesda, Maryland, company also include maintaining daily oversight of investigational sites and serving as the main contact for all issues involving the sites.
